Nature Conservation This section aims to learn more about habitats through visits and follow-up work. We also take an interest in nature conservation issues and have been actively involved in trying to protect sensitive environments under threat and in promoting environmentally friendly activities. Recently we have looked at shingle banks, woodlandsand wet meadows. In 2003 we concentrated on coastal habitats visiting beaches, cliffs, sand-dunes, shingle-banks and salt marshes. Section members have also been involved in survey work, notably the survey of quarries published in La Société Guernesiase Transactions for 1991. We meet on the third Monday of every month (other than December), indoors from September to March and outdoors from April to August. Some section members are also help out with nature-reserve management with the Guernsey Conservation Volunteers. The Guernsey Bat Group operates under the aegis of the Nature Conservation Section. More information about the group may be found here |
