| Marine Biology Section Meeting | Dec 23rd 2006, Houmet Paradis |
We met at the beach on a cold day with a S wind, so we went round the north side of Houmet Paradis to keep warmer.
Houmet Paradis at half tide on a nicer day
Looking north towards HomtolleWe found all the usual common shore creatures and seaweeds. Among the more unusual ones was the Hydroid Candelabrum phrygium under stones. A photograph of this species can be seen on Richard Lord's web site. There it is called Candelabrum cocksii, not everybody is convinced these are two separate species. If they are ours is cocksii
We found Black Goby, Worm Pipefish and Butterfish. On the way back up the beach we found small beds of Eelgrass, Zostera marina, which is possibly increasing in this area. . We finished the afternoon with coffee and mince tarts.
