New Interpretation Centre planned at Les Sablons
When Les Sablons Tearooms at L’Eree closed in June 2007, La Société’s Conservation
Officer, Jamie Hooper approached the owner, Eric Ozanne with a suggestion
that we might use the empty tearoom as an Interpretation Centre.
At the time, Eric wasn’t sure whether or not one of his family might
wish to
run the business, but promised Jamie first refusal if they decided not to.
Eric honoured this pledge a year later.
La Société has put in an application to the Environment Planning
department
for change of use of part (approximately two thirds) of the tearoom. Joy
Goldsmith will be employed to serve teas in the remaining third and in the
garden.
She will also act as custodian of the Interpretation Centre (subject to
permission having been granted) and will open and close each day. She will
also sell our goods.
We could not wish for a better site. It overlooks the Ramsar Site and on
the
day that Jamie and the President first visited Eric to begin negotiations,
a
Marsh Harrier and a Buzzard were circling over the reed beds.
