March 2010

Talk on Roman Guernsey
Thursday 18th March
An illustrated lecture by Dr Philip de Jersey, Dr Jason Monaghan and Tanya Walls at 8.00pm at the Frossard Theatre in Candie Gardens, St Peter Port

It used to be claimed that there had been little Roman influence on Guernsey. The discovery of the Roman ship ‘Asterix’ and excavations at La Plaiderie and the Bonded Store show that this was far from the case. A recent re-examination of excavated and stray finds from around the Island and from marine sites adds to the picture. It appears that Guernsey was very much part of the Roman world.
